Why the APL Matters for Afghan Cricket
The point is not to out-IPL the IPL. The point is a season that Afghan cricketers do not have to leave the sport's own structure to find.
Analysis
No lock of the week. A way of thinking about a tournament that has not started, plus the one that finished in Sharjah.
The most useful fantasy fact from the only APL we have is also the least marketable. Mohammad Shahzad led the runs. Isuru Udana led the wickets. Both played for Paktia Panthers. Panthers did not reach the final. If your model is 'pick the best players, captain the best of them, collect the trophy by association', 2018 is sitting there laughing.
Second useful fact: the final was not a 200-play. Kabul Zwanan made 132 for 9. Balkh chased it. Qais Ahmad's 5 for 18 outscored, in fantasy terms and in actual terms, a lot of pretty thirties. On a night when the surface or the bowling says 140, the death bowler is the captain candidate and the dasher who needs 40 balls is a trap. Sharjah produced a 244 as well, two weeks earlier. You do not get to know which ground you have been handed until the venue list exists. See the fantasy page for the longer version of this argument.
For 2026 the discipline is roles. Four overseas players in an XI, if that reported rule holds, means at least seven local players. A side of five star overseas names is an illegal side. Build around the captain you trust to play all eight league games, then add skill you cannot cover locally: a powerplay wicket, a left-arm angle, a finisher. Do not add a sixth overseas player because the name looks good in a screenshot.
Captain and vice-captain logic in a fresh league should be boring. Prefer players whose role is stable. An opener bats. A new-ball bowler bowls two overs even in a collapse. An all-rounder at six might bat at eight if the top order fires, and your double points vanish. Rashid, as captain of a franchise and as a bowler who also bats, is the obvious double-duty name. Obvious is not the same as mandatory, and he still needs a published XI.
Mistakes that will show up in week one: treating 2018 franchises as 2026 franchises, ignoring the emerging-player slot, and copying an IPL template onto a 20-over game that may start at 5:00 PM rather than under lights. Legal note, because it belongs in the same breath as any tip. Fantasy contests are age-restricted where they are legal at all. This site takes no stake, offers no pick that 'cannot lose', and would like you to keep the game smaller than the cricket.

Smaller on purpose. The interesting comparison is the draft, not the budget.
Ninety players, 18 rounds, six categories. Kandahar Warriors opened with Muhammad Amir; Nangarhar Cosmic opened Silver and Emerging.
