The window opened on 30 August. More than 150 players signed up in the first 10 days. The draft itself was set for 27 September in Dubai.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board opened player registrations for the APL T20 draft on 30 August 2026. The board announced the window on 8 September, with chief executive Naseeb Khan named in the announcement. The window ran until 19 September, and the board took enquiries until 15 September.
The early response was strong. More than 150 players had registered in the first 10 days of the window, which left the board with a workable pool before the draft order was even a question.
Overseas players had one more step to clear. Anyone coming in from outside Afghanistan needed a No Objection Certificate from their home board before they could register, so the paperwork sat alongside the cricket from the start.
The announcement put the draft itself on 27 September 2026 in Dubai. That date did not hold. The draft was later moved, and it was in fact held on 3 November 2026 in Dubai.
The league around the draft was already set in outline. It is owned by the Afghanistan Cricket Board and operated with Cricket Ventures, and the first match was scheduled for 27 December 2026 in the UAE.
